Etienne van Zyl

Etienne headed our High Court Litigation department since January 2022 and served as a director of our firm. Unfortunately, Etienne decided to call a day on a long and distinguished legal career which saw him stepping down as a director in April 2024, but he will continue his association with our firm as a consultant utilizing his extensive experience in general conveyancing and bond registrations, commercial contracts, property developments, property transfers through estate agents, and liquor licenses.

Etienne grew up in the Free State and the Eastern Cape. After matriculated in Grahamstown, he obtained both his B. Iuris and LLB degrees from the University of the Free State in 1987 and 1990 respectively. He completed his articles of clerkship with Symington & de Kok in Bloemfontein and was admitted as an Attorney, Notary, and Conveyancer in 1992. He remained with Symington & de Kok throughout and served as a director of the firm until August 2020.

Etienne is a keen golfer, a passionate traveler, and an avid sports lover. Above all, he is a dedicated family man to his wife Esmè and sons Etienne and Wian, who are both living abroad.
